Research Overview
Dr. Tilford is an Associate Professor of health economics with appointments in the UAMS College of Medicine Department of Pediatrics and the UAMS College of Public Health Department of Health Policy and Management. Dr. Tilford specializes in the application of economic evaluation methods to pediatric health services. His research focuses on 1) the cost and consequences of treatment variations among children admitted to intensive care units, 2) the outcomes of children with disabilities and their impact on caregivers, and 3) the benefits of improved technology in the treatment of critically ill children. Dr. Tilford has led studies of children with traumatic brain injuries, children with spina bifida, deaf and hard of hearing children, and caregivers of children with craniofacial anomalies. He has served as a principal investigator on research sponsored by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the Maternal and Child Health Bureau, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Findings from his research have been used to guide policies on the expansion of health insurance for children, referral patterns for pediatric intensive care services, and the implementation of guidelines for the treatment of children with traumatic brain injuries.
